The ‘Honest Amish’ British Beard & Moustache Championships comes to Plymouth
My dedication to this craft and the support of my fellow competitors led me to a triumphant third-place finish, earning me the esteemed title of British Champion. Matt Wall from Leek initially competed in the natural beard category, before moving to freestyle, where beards are styled with curls and spikes, to give him a greater chance of victory. The event’s headline sponsor, Honest Amish, will be one of those making international travel arrangements. A popular American beardcare brand with a worldwide audience, the firm supports beard competitions across the US and Europe. Sometimes they’re in a fancy hotel ballroom, sometimes they’re in a pub. Sometimes there’s glamorous hosts, sometimes it’s a beardy bloke.

BRITISH BEARD & MOUSTACHE CHAMPIONSHIPS 2026 TICKETS
It’s not just ‘biggest beard wins’, there are many different categories for the various sizes and styles of beards and moustaches. All that information will be available when tickets go on sale in August. To find out more sooner, there is a social event on Saturday, July 22 at Roam Brewing Co in Hyde Park, Plymouth. Join Mike and Clair between 3pm and 5pm, and meet other members of the local beardy community. No tickets are required, and you’re welcome to arrive and leave whenever you like.
The ‘Honest Amish’ British Beard and Moustache Championships will be coming to Plymouth next year with the event motto ‘All Aboard! ‘, bringing together the themes of Plymouth’s maritime heritage, encouraging visitors to the city, and growing the beardy community around Devon and Cornwall. But fancy dress – or even wearing a suit – really isn’t compulsory. “We just want everyone to have a good time, and help us raise plenty of money for our chosen charities, the Devon and the Cornwall Air Ambulance Trusts,” said Mike. And for reassurance that size doesn’t matter, it’s not just ‘biggest beard wins’!
It’s a hidden, historic gem noted also for its excellent lunches. The British Beard Club actively supports and encourages the development of the nation’s regional beard clubs; we’d like to hear about your events and give them maximum publicity right here. Sometimes there’s panels of actual judges, sometimes the people in the pub are asked to vote for their favourites. There’s no direct Trusted casinos in New Zealand connection between the events – you don’t have to place in a local competition to be able to enter the national championships, or anything like that. If you want to take part in any beard competition, anywhere in the world, just buy a ticket and show up. The national event is being held at The Duke of Cornwall hotel in Plymouth on Saturday, October 12 and will raise money for the Air Ambulance Trusts in Cornwall and Devon. The gentlemen of Capital Beards, the London thatch of The British Beard Club will hold their monthly meeting at this, one of our most favoured hostelries. This is our annual pilgrimage to the historic city of St. Albans; we’ll be drinking and taking lunch at The White Lion, one of our favourite CAMRA pubs noted for great beer and food. Come ye with your beards to join us at this rambling 18th century country pub just along from the City of St Albans to celebrate a great union of beards and beer. The annual summer meeting of The British Beard Club brings together members from all over to feast and drink together and enjoy a lively discussion together with plenty of friendly banter.

As well as beard categories, there were also moustache classes such as goatee, chops and side-burns, and those with a beard but no moustache at all – referred to as Amish or Whaler. The 3rd BBMC was held in Liverpool in 2016, hosted by The Liverbeards. The 2nd BBMC was held in Bath in 2014, hosted by Wessex Beardsmen. The 1st BBMC was held in Brighton in 2012, hosted by The British Beard Club and The Handlebar Club.
More importantly, the event raised over £5,000 for charitable causes. “Going up on stage with about fifty other guys with beards and moustaches.. people were doing proper little performances, they had outfits,” he said. It’s going to be a great day raising money for our local community centre ‘The Oast’ and for celebrating facial hair of all shapes and sizes.
